About the apprenticeship:

We deliver the apprenticeship with e-learning resources from a virtual learning environment with tutor support, provide workplace inductions, regular assessments and examinations, and liaise with workplace mentors for delivery of training. The end point assessment includes an observation in the workplace, a professional practice test and a professional discussion. The typical duration is 24 months. On successful completion the apprentice can undertake Level 5 Ophthalmic and Vision Science qualifications that are not included in the apprenticeship.

Provider information

The Association of Health Professions in Ophthalmology (AHPO) is a longstanding educational charity whose membership includes representatives from the Royal College of Ophthalmologists and other professional bodies that deliver ophthalmic care within the NHS and for private providers. AHPO is the only body that offers education and training for delivery of a comprehensive range of ophthalmic diagnostic tests. We provide healthcare science apprenticeships at levels 2 and 4, and diplomas for ophthalmic-related tests and investigations not included in these apprenticeships. We are committed to ensuring that all ophthalmic staff have knowledge and competence to provide accurate, consistent results and high quality, compassionate patient care.
